Why does my water bottle turn green after a while?
I’ve got a plastic sports drink thing I bought at GNC and I’ve used it for making protein chocolate shakes and also just for filling it with water and drinking at my desk. When I’m only drinking water, after a couple of days the corners on the inside start becoming a light green. I think it’s mold but not sure. Does anyone know what it is? Is it poisonous and should I replace the bottle? I could clean it of course and I do, but still want to know what it is. Thanks.
It is bacteria. There was a report done on the news here in Indianapolis about water bottles. Experts say that you have to clean them with an antibacterial dish soap and once a week mix the dish soap with a little bleach. Clean it and rinse it very well before you use it. I would even suggest popping it in the dishwasher once or twice a week. Bacteria will grow inside of the bottle because mainly the bottle sits out in the open and the the water in it is a breeding ground for harmful bacteria to grow. At walmart, there is this mini refrigerator that costs about 5.99. I got one just for that reason. It is soo small that it sits like on the floor by your feet and it is portable. NO outlets needed. I would suggest buying one.
