Is it appropriate to have two monograms (husband and wife) on one silver candy dish?

It is appropriate. It is done, either as two separate monograms on two different places on the dish, or as a combined monogram–Last name initial, larger font center, his given name left of center, hers, right of center.
I prefer the two separate monograms–it seems to require fewer explanations.
