Marcasite is iron sulfide, the only mineral sulfide used in jewelry. It is quite durable, with a Moh’s hardness of 6.5. Typically, marcasites are glued into jewelry, and it is much more likely that they will fall out than they will ever wear out. You should know that since about 1700, marcasite has not been considered valuable. Modern jewelers consider it to be “costume” jewelry. Don’t pay too much!!!
