How would I change this fairy tale to a modern setting?
I have to pick a fairy tale and make it modern like cars. I want to do The Enchanted Watch but I have no clue how to make it modern.
It’s easy…here I wrote this up using the synopsis, maybe it will give you some ideas for your story.
A wealthy business mans eldest two sons wanted to go out and travel the world, the father allowed them buying them each a plane and a pilot to escort them to where ever they wished to go. Because of recent world events, he feared for their safety limiting them to three years travel each. The spoiled youngest son also wanted to go, he begged and pleaded the father to let him go. Instead his father tried to distract him with gifts of new cars and cellphones, but the son would not be distracted. The father finally let him go, fearing his naivety the father gifted him a new car and limited him to staying in the country. The son happily accepted and was on his way.
While speeding through country roads, he noticed some farmers about to kill a dog, he quickly pulled over and rushed to the dogs aid asking the men to give them the dog instead. The men accepted the son’s offer, telling him they would give the dog to him for his expensive sunglasses. The son agreed and took the dog. Soon he had a acquired a cat and a snake by the same means, trading his IPod for the cat and his IPhone for the snake.
The snake insisted on rewarding him and brought to the swamps of Louisiana to meet the King of Snakes, praising the son for saving his life. The grateful snake king rewarded the son with a Fossil Watch, telling him if he were to rub it, it would grant him whatever his heart desired.
He went home to tell his father what had happened. Upon seeing his son wearing the same clothing he’d left in the father flew into a fit of a rage, kicking his son out of the home for embarrassing him. A few days later, the now homeless son used the watch to make a mansion and invited his father over for dinner. His father was deeply impressed and asked his boss and his daughter to come to come to his sons home for dinner. The father’s boss was impressed by the high tech home and all the entertainment the son had provided. Seeing a valuable opportunity he offered the son his daughter as his bride. Because the son was foolish, his new bride grew tired of him and stayed out with friends or shopped until her husband went to sleep. One day she came home and saw him using the magical watch, seeing her chance to escape she waited until he had fallen asleep before stealing the watch and fleeing.
When the son woke up and found the watch and his wife gone he summoned his friends the cat and the dog and they set out to find her. While driving past a large lake they noticed a island that had not been there before and a home that had most certainly not been there. Suspecting his estranged bride lived there, the son drove to the local police station and asked them about the island. The police confirmed that his runaway bride had moved there mysteriously over night.
The son rented a boat and rode to the island with his faithful companions, half way to the island he stopped the boat fearing the engine would alert his bride. The dog jumped into the water and the cat leaped onto it’s back together they set off to the island. The cat waited until the thieving woman went to sleep before sneaking into her home and stealing the watch back, quickly running back out and climbing onto the dogs back. The cat proudly carried the watch in it’s mouth.
Eventually the dog started to grow tired and asked the cat how long before they reached the boat again, the cat opened it’s mouth to answer and the watch fell out of his mouth. The cat caught a fish that was passing by, the smart cat promised to free the fish in exchange that the fish got the watch back, the fish quickly agreed and returned the watch to the cat. Eventually they arrived back at the boat and handed the watch over to the son. He took it and wished his wife a wanted felon, everything she had in her home and the island was stolen and she would be jailed until her beauty faded into wrinkles that no plastic surgery could fix. He watched as the magical watch granted his wish and the police arrived to take his wife away. With a slight smile on his face he turned the boat around and headed home satisfied.
