Coasters Wedding

Have you ever made coasters out of ceremic tiles and stamps?
I want to make coasters as favors for my wedding reception. I need some tips! I have pretty coasters, nice stamps and ink that says its good for ceremic but I dont know what kind of glaze or whatever to put over top to make the ink stay.
Thank You!
I’ve made quite a few coasters using different techniques. If your coasters are slick on top, you’ll probably want to use Staz-On inks and seal the coasters with a clear acrylic spray like Krylon. Staz-On ink on the coasters is likely to be damaged by using the coasters over time. Be careful to seal the coasters with several VERY light layers of Krylon, as the spray acrylic is solvent-based, and so is the Staz-On ink. If you put too much Krylon on at one time the ink (no matter how dry) will lift up into the sprayed acrylic and make a mess.
If your tiles are slightly porous (often called “tumbled marble”) then those are my favorite! You can use Staz-on Ink with these too (I recommend the same sealing method to save your work from wear & tear). But my favorite ink for using on tumbled marble tiles is Stampin’ Up!’s Craft Ink. The color selection is great and it works beautifully on tiles. There are 2 ways to “seal” the ink: 1) you can use Krylon as suggested, although you’ll have less problem with the ink “lifting” into the sprayed acrylic, or 2) you can use clear or ultrathick embossing powder (this is my favorite!)
For directions with pictures, you can visit the May Stampin’ Highlight Gallery on my website: www.LovenStamps.com
Basically, you stamp in Craft Ink on your tiles, then shake the embossing powder over the top, dump off the extra powder, and then bake your tile in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees to melt the powder. The results are gorgeous.
And since you need to make quite a few of these for favors, I’d recommend stamping 5-6 tiles at a time, adding the embossing powder, then baking while you’re stamping the next batch of tiles. The process is pretty quick!
Good luck with your project!
